ITCHING IN PREGNANCY AYURVEDIC TREATMENT

Management includes bringing balance in all the doshas using lifestyle and diet changes and use of certain specialised herbs. Certain lepa  (medicated pastes/creams) will be usefully in relieving the symptoms. Herbs like Manjishta, nimba, patola, nimba, sursa are useful.
 

Diet Recommendations (Aahar)

The diet recommended for itchy dry skin includes –

  • drinking at least 8-12 glasses of water a day
  • drinking warm water with the juice from half a lemon
  • eating an organic diet
  • getting plenty of fiber, fruits and vegetables with deep pigments
  • avoiding sugar and artificial sweeteners.

Lifestyle changes (Vihar)

  • The main advice is to keep cool both physically and mentally
  • Wearing light cotton clothing is advised
  • Cold compresses are helpful and having warm rather than hot baths are advised
  • Moisturizing the skin and oil massages are recommended
  • Using mild soaps for cleansing
  • Yoga, tai  chi  or  relaxation  techniques  are  helpful  as  stress,  anxiety and tension can make the skin problem worse
